5Gs for Gaining Growth | Strategy # 1
How do you feel about alliteration?
Me…I love it.
Do you remember how Pippy Peponopolis perfectly procures poignant phrases in the movie Mr. Popper’s Penguins? I love her character, the writers who came up with so many “p” words to create her lines, and the actress who pulls off a particularly perplexing predicament.
The reason I mention it is because I’ve been inundated with a particular letter (G) while preparing topics for POD’s Community Emails. But… I’ve been stuck on how to bring all the words together in a theme, so in an attempt to move towards my growth line (as an Enneagram 1), I decided to just start - even though my notes are jumbling, my uncertainty level is high, and I do not have it perfectly mapped out.
And you know what?
As I started with my mess of ideas, the pieces fell together to create a theme for the emails and it even aligns with POD’s mission.
Mind-blowing right?
In the upcoming weeks, we will explore the 5G’s to Gain Growth.
No spoilers and no peeking - you’re just going to have to wait to see what the 5 strategies are.
For each of the “5G” strategies we will share:
A definition from dictionary.com and a few synonyms (because we’re nerdy like that)
An explanation of why this strategy is important in your everyday life and in your relationships
What happens when you don’t utilize this strategy
Practical ways you can begin to incorporate it (if you aren’t already)
The connection of the strategy and your Enneagram Type
So let’s jump in!
Our first motivator towards growth is…GO!
GO —> Taking action is a step contributing to our growth.
Plain and simple, we must take action.
Go literally means…
1) to move or proceed
2) to leave a place
3) to keep or be in motion
In other words: move, progress, take action
Taking action is the bridge between our intentions and reality.
Pressing the “go button” is what turns dreams into achievements, strengthens our connections with others, and adds meaning to our everyday experiences.
Whether it’s a small step like making a phone call or a big leap like pursuing a new goal, taking action helps us grow, learn, and build deeper relationships.
When we sit at the red light and don’t take action, we risk losing opportunities for growth and connection.
Other stalling tactics like procrastination or fear can lead to missed chances, strained relationships, and unfulfilled potential (just ask me, I’ve been there).
Too long at the yellow light and this inaction can create frustration or regret, leaving us feeling stagnant or disconnected.
If you desire growth but are wondering what to do when the light turns green, here are a few tips to consider:
Start Small: Identify one task or goal you’ve been putting off and commit to taking the first step today.
Prioritize Relationships: Reach out to a loved one or friend. A small gesture, like a message or a kind word, can strengthen bonds.
Set Intentions: Begin each day by choosing one action, no matter how small, that aligns with your values or goals.
Your “GO” will look different than anyone else's and that is absolutely okay, it should.
